Financing\u00a0Programs Are More Effective When Homes Are Properly Assessed First<\/h1>\n

US Department of Energy Recommends Efficiency First<\/span><\/h2>\n

In a\u00a0November 2016 update to its Best Practice\u00a0Guidelines for Residential PACE Financing\u00a0Programs, the US DOE advocated for home\u00a0energy assessments or audits to be performed\u00a0prior to any major system upgrades through a\u00a0PACE program.<\/p>\n

The EE programs contain the benefit of\u00a0assessing the property (residential or\u00a0commercial) for health hazards. This has\u00a0resulted in hundreds of lives saved in CT and\u00a0uncovered gas leaks, high CO, ALM, Mold, and\u00a0other serious health impacting problems, which\u00a0are often then corrected.<\/p>\n

It allows professionals to address the home as a\u00a0system and provide the ratepayer\/resident a full\u00a0report on available incentives, EE, \u00a0renewable\u00a0upgrades, and financing. This is the measurable\u00a0direct benefit of providing the professional full-BPI (HES or HES-IE) assessment and\u00a0information to the person before they make\u00a0consumer choices.<\/p>\n

It is a disservice to the customer to allow the\u00a0use of PACE financing programs to install a new\u00a0system into a house that may have serious\u00a0existing problems of indoor air quality, air\u00a0leakage, or inadequate insulation values.<\/p>\n

In order to maximize the return on investment\u00a0to the consumer, we must insure that homes\u00a0receive proper assessments before ratepayers\u00a0enter into contracts for systems that may not\u00a0perform as well as they expected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
